Continuing...
In Verona we walked to the beginning of the Highway, and after spending a while hitching and playing the banjo(seems to help getting rides :D) we got a ride from a very nice guy called Walter... walter was a student in Padova and offered us a place to sleep, he was such a sweet and gentle character. He took us to meet his friends and we eventually spent 2 nights at his place, eating good, going out the first night for a Spritz(white wine, gin, campari and soda) and a 60's italian bands concert(they really rocked and sounded like the Byrds) in the beautifull town of Padova, the next day we went to a buskers festival in ferrarra, awesome to see so many street musicians, artists, craftsmen, bodypainters and street theater... I ended up doing some firespinning for some nice people I'd met and walter and his friends.
Then we went to a beautifull drum circle where everyone seemed to be dancing or doing poi or jamming... awesome, I got too drunk and tired though and took a nap :p.
On driving home in the car of one of Wlaters friends dad, we passed the cops... and got really scared since all of us had been drinking and smoking, though reasonable, still might have got us into trouble with the cops, they were checking another car though and we passed them quickly...
we had a good night sleep and the next day walter dropped us off at the peage and we hitched on to venezia, got a good ride and got there early... walked all over the island with it's many canals and blatant tourism, ate a pizza and got out of there again, we hadn't found a couchsurfing place so... we took the train to Trieste that night from Mestre: Arrived in Trieste, no place to sleep, seemed a bit dangerous sleeping in the town, border towns can be. Train station was great though, took turns sleeping a couple of hours, slept well but too short... had breakfast and hitched to Slovenia, a really nice captain to be (studied marine sciences) took us across the border and to the beach of Porte Ros, spent the nigth in a park there, a cool slovenian metal-dude told us all about the country and to visit Metelkova in Ljubljana "they'll give you a place to stay there, for sure' , cooked some good slovenian food, and left towards Ljubjlana the next day.
Two fine ladies gave us a ride to Ljubjlana, I fell asleep in the car... still kind of tired, and offered if we didn't find a place to sleep, to take us in.
Ljubjlana is a beautifull town, has a mountain and a castle and an overall great atmosphere and pretty buildings.
We went to the Metelkova street, and found one of the greatest anarcho-squatt art projects I've ever seen: a whole street full of art and crazy building with tons of murals grafitti and music clubs.
It's awesome hanging out there in the evening, with tons of nice kids and travellers musicians and artists. We could pitch our tent there, and we stayed two dazs, made many new friends, among whom Robert another belgian guy from antwerp who had been travelling for 20 years now, by foot and with his dog... a truly special man.
and a whole buch of really nice french people, slovenians, an australian who taught me some gypsy scales and music and so on...
we left for zagreb by train yesterday, too hung over to hitchike, alcohol is soo bad for you :p, hmm, fuck it.
and checked into a hostel, had a good sleep and feel like a million bucks today.
Yves left this morning though, gave him a good hug and then we had to part ways... for now
that's life.... and it's good
heading for Split tomorrow, then Dubrovnik, Medjugorje, Mostar, Sarajevo, Beograd... the road goes on, forever.
much love and light to all of you out there! Dharna bums, life's artists, family people, seekers and stayers, lovers and players, you're all awesome!!!
